silas moldenhawer and jonas kenton, both children of the early 80s, grew up alongside each other in the tiny big city of copenhagen. in their teenage years they discovered electronic music and this led them to start spinning records and producing tracks together. years later they met two other talented musicians and formed well-establish danish indie-electro outfit when saints go machine, but still kept on building kenton slash demon as a separate project.

special nice price blow out ... dukes of chutney is john paul jones and dustin lynn, california born brothers from other cosmic mothers who met surfing over a decade ago. the flavor of the dukes musical chutney is an abstract but balanced mixture of many disciplines. under the moniker tom croose, jones has established a beguiling production touch to various edits and remixes. lynn is an accomplished filmmaker who has collaborated with artist gabriel orozco and directed campaigns for designers alexander mcqueen and corto moltedo.

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.

number 3 on ruff draft comes from louis guilliaume. having met louis back in 2009 and followed his music since way before then, it was an exciting day when we received these tracks from him. known more for his harder edge techno productions on labels such as soundtravels, bio rhythm holland, teng, sd holland and a remix on skudge, here he edges slightly away from that harder sound. the tracks vary from deep, groovy and meandering house to a beatless soundscape reminiscent of early larkin and pullen to a powerful kick drum driven sermon.

the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

h45 sees manchester s tomson (freerange) & eddie leader (hudd traxx) colloborate with chicago legend chez damier. this project has been in a long time in the making and came about when chez met eddie at his house & techno night content manchester. chez was at the start of his comeback and they were introduced by mutual friend joshua, a former prescription and hudd traxx artist. the meeting resulted in chez becoming good friendswith tomson & leader and laying down some vocals in the studio for the manchester pair. h45 is a new catalogue number for the hudd traxx family

saves *monsters and fairies* is an abandoned hotel room located somewhere between england and spain. it is real for some while for others it is just a fantasy. who knows?
it is in this exact same place that the american singer/vocalist craig louis higgins jr. (paranoid london/mutado pintado/black daniel), the australian singer/composer saskia sansom and the fench electronic music composer marc nguyen tan (colder) got together to record these songs during the year 2012. however some listeners will find interesting to know, that until today, the three of them have never actually met in person.
four tracks from this experience are available now on limited 10 inch vinyl with original artwork by london artist sara pope.

ron maney also known as dj skull lived in the southside of chicago (il, usa). his musical career started during the summer of 1986, while recovering from a broken bone. during the following years he homed his craft, djing first at basement parties, building his reputation to go on to larger events such as, loft and hotel parties, and eventually the infamous music box and power plant clubs. at the age of fifteen ron shopped his first demo at trax records. there he first met chicago s legendary dj ron hardy, working as a&r for trax records. two years, and a new alias later (dj skull) later while at the power plant, chicago s own steve poindexter heard a dj playing one of rons tracks, and met ron. steve was now a&r at saber records and invited ron to release some tracks. so in october of 1991 dj skull s first record -n.r.g. music- was released. in 1993, he released the ep -the stomping grounds- on djax-up-beats, which was more noted than the first one. over the years that followed dj skull released lots of ep s on several labels. he has become well-respected producer and dj in the techno industry

general ludd is rich mcmaster from new jersey and tom marshallsay from canterbury. the guys met at the glasgow art school, where rich studied environmental art and tom studied fine art. their first collaborations were interactive sound installations, but that quickly gave way to all night music making sessions, some of which resulted in this fine twelve-inch. both tracks have already become staples at mister saturday night parties. eamon tends to play the heady, brothers and sisters, and justin tends to play the absolutely crushing, woo ha, but were sure you ll like them both.

alland byallo and kenneth scott met in san francisco around nine years ago. since then they have collaborated on countless projects and events, leading up to scotts official partnership in the bad animal label. scott delivers his debut on ba in fine form, offering three original tracks that are perfect examples of his unique take on house music.

san francisco threepiece live band pillowtalk are surprising dance music treasures. manipulating pop melodies, classic r&b, soul and boogie into the loose rhythms of house music and performing live on stages in nightclub settings across the world, they have bridged an impossible gulf between worlds and created new expectations for electronic producers and live musicians alike.

jbla came into being after julian jöckel (midnightopera) and stuart argabright (ike yard, black rain, o13) performed at a party in brussels on the 5th of oct. 2012 on invitation from bernardo risquez & michael langeder (different fountains). they all had met for the first time the year before through michael kreitz from meakusma when different fountains & o13 played concerts in eupen. after staying at different fountains studio the day after the brussels event they set up a rather improvised jam session. julian played synth on a yamaha dx7, bernardo worked the low frequencies on an old eminent organ while michael contributed machine sounds and took care of the live fx engineering. stuart put together some words and brought a beat to the occasion of the jam session at the df studio. during the short euro tour with ike yard, l.i.e.s label head ron morelli and artist svengalisghost came to the paris show and were talking with stuart about the streetwalkers of belleville, specifically the sad chinese hookers out on the street. combined with news about recent foxxconn workers suicides in china and witnessing altercations close to the air bnb where he stayed. the belleville ep are two cuts from that session with remixes from ron morelli + svengalisghost and vereker, pressed on translucent vinyl.

forgotten corner, khidja & cassini division first met on the desert planet of tatooine whilst attending a cosmic music festival at the galaxy renowned mos eisley cantina!…in a hash laden corner they bonded like wookies, jammed with the max rebo band & then roamed the desert plains of tatooine with the nomadic tusken raiders! no one knows exactly what happened but music ideas were exchanged & tracks were made ... here are two of them - rescued from tape, covered in cosmic cous cous purposely gathered by cassini from the rings of jupiter & smeared in hummus from the swamps of dagobah!

booka shade are set to release crossing borders featuring fritz kalkbrenner from their 2013 album eve on embassy one / blaufield music. booka shade first met fritz when he asked them to remix one of his songs, as we are fans of his voice, we thought it would be a great idea if he would sing a vocal for one of our demos for the new album. he came to our studio with the lyrics of crossing borders and within 1 hour, the song was recorded. crossing borders is enriched with acoustic and chilling electronic tones and demonstrates the trials and tribulations of the every day struggle weve got to go on, even if we stray, crossing borders to another side

the new year starts with the welcome news that the cosmologist returns with episode three of the cosmology series. trip 1 started life as a tribute to 70s radical firebrands the last poets and their 1977 clarion call to arms, *its a trip*. a loose and ever changing collective, the initial line up was formed on may 19.1968 to mark malcolm xs birthday, having all met at east wind, a harlem based writers work shop. they took their name from a revolutionary south african poet keorapetse kgositisile who rightly prophesized that the talking would soon give way to the persuasiveness of the gun. continuing that thought, civil rights for african americans was very much the beat of the last poets, a cause they would champion and indeed, were not afraid to back up their mighty words with direct action.

the playground label drops its 3rd 12 inch featuring friends that all met while working at the infamous (and now defunct) bar in berlin. 4 eclectic house grooves from kaster cordalis, roger that, walker barnard and beaner. limited to 200 copies.

quantum entanglement is one of the strangest phenomena in the universe, overcoming barriers of space and time and knitting the entire cosmos into an integrated whole. fin greenall (fink, sideshow) and myself lee jones (hefner, mymy) met at college in the early nineties and played a lot of chess to the soundtrack of aphex twin and future sound of london.

welcoming warrior one to losing suki, the man like carl faure has been knocking out some killers for labels like black butter, catskills and king pigeon over the last few years, and for suki he shines a light upon the garage house hybrid sounds…. title track 5ths kicks things off with the kind of punchy garage house swing that never fails to move you, airhorns and synth sweeps pepper the cut whilst a thundering double 99-esque bassline throbs hard and heavy. flipside, the reverberating keys and mc licks of nyc continue warrior ones indulgence of the classic us house sounds but with a slick production for the modern dancefloor. closing track only you presents orgasmic pads and tough garage beats, its meaty bass touching the spot, a sweet slice of when rave met garage (somewhere in a field off the m25, most probably).

the founders of >pfand<, hali and yapacc, met each other in berlin and torontos nightclub circuit. they created the synonym >act natural< and debuted four tracks which describe the actual vibe and feel of berlins club culture. beside the purely minimal percussive tracks (pretty good & action - words), they created a vocal-based hymn, >berlin is killing me<, that perfectly expresses the mood after a long party weekend. for >revenge or insanity<, they invited julie marghilano to give the right punch in combination with a bumpy bassline that kicks you in your ass.

jonsson & alter are back with 2! the result is eight strong tracks that each shine and glimmer like a roughly cut diamond. the listeners are met by a prouder, matured, and more confident duo on 2. it is music for long club nights, but also perfect for simply listening to as it is dance music that reveals so many layers, so many angles and so much emotion.

two overlooked rare disco masterpieces produced by soul legend lenis guess. when we met lenis in new york this year, the super rare shake lp *music is the only way we can communicate* was lying overlooked and forgotten on a dusty shelf. lenis had the tapes there too, so it wasnt long before we picked two of our favourite tracks for this killer 45. one for the rare disco and boogie heads and never before on 45, these wont be around long.

garrett david and adam rowe first met 4 years ago working together in the run-down offices of dust traxx. since then they have graduated to roommates and co-workers at chicagos gramaphone records. with their debut release, the boys deliver a unique and endearing house sound with a bit of quirk and machine-made flavor. an ep for the selectors, each track demands its own place within the night. b free features their dear friend and vocalist, shaun j wright (ex. hercules & love affair). we have been waiting so long to get this out, and cannot wait to share it with the world. werk.

misty conditions is a project that started off when henry collins and richard wilson met up in henrys studio a couple of years ago and jammed for a few days non-stop, enjoying the process thoroughly. the connection became so good in this period that the duo developed a fluent understanding of how each other worked, ending up as a project made across the internet, while henry was living in france and richard in la. they cross pollinated by developing what each did best, henry making and creating banks of samples and richard creating software and effects to cut up and re-sample, passing the tracks back and forth, essentially until they felt finished.

in 2011 when mad mats and tooli went to sonar festival in barcelona they met ludovic llorca aka art of tones outside a club. little did they know back then that two years later on they would release a 12 inch together. the same thing ep opens with the title track and kicks pretty damn sweet with its strong vocal, the guitar, bass and rhodes jamming on top of a tight groove, there is also a dub version included on the b-side. last but not least, the great sgatmi is a jazzy and bumpy house take with lots of samples perfectly balanced. all in all, classic art of tones material and the work of a producer firing on all cylinders.

sam cooke is considered to be one of the pioneers and founders of soul music. through his justifiable legendary and distinctive voice he acquired the nickname king of soul.
this is the remastered version on 180 grams audiophile vinyl of a record that has been out of print for a (too) long time.

i first met leon vynehall in berlin before a gig at the amazing about_blank. we had a fun conversation and he played a really good set that night. much later i realized i had been playing one of his tracks (total s) for ages! we stayed in touch and i asked if i could hear some of his new music. he sent me five tracks and i signed four, that is a pretty good score if you ask me! smart and conscious about his music and his output, i think this ep is really only the beginning for leon vynehall. i am glad i am able to give it a platform and share these amazing tracks with you. also special props to d&m for doing a great mastering job on these. - martyn

it has always been one of my dreams reunite the old group of friends i met in the basement of rome and with whom i have begun the journey towards this adventure. today i am very happy to present this work made in collaboration with one of my closest friends and with whom i shared for long time studios, music, ideas, techniques and the mutual love for a good italian cuisine. i sincerely believe that donato dozzy does not need any introduction.
